if you don’t have one of those pre-made, fancy stitch markers (necessary especially when you are working in the round) then find a handy-dandy safety pin and mark your stitch with it.

I usually mark the stem of the stitch so I can fit my crochet hook into the stitch loops on that row and continue on with the next stitch.
